Prints 101: Editing your PrintsHello again, it's renonevada with another article about how to make sure your prints are the best they can be.
This time I'm going back to Prints 101 and tell you how to edit existing prints and add prints to deviations that already exist. This is a frequent question in the Help Desk and in the printscommunity.
Most of these instructions will apply to submitting a new deviation as well. A brief article was written about new submit here, if you would like to check that out here.
Editing your Print
If you have a deviation with a print already enabled, you will see the button below right on the deviation page, which looks like the image below.
Click that button and you will be taken directly to the Edit page for that print.
You will notice that a few sizes have been pre-selected for you. Those are defaults that deviantART chooses based on the size of you
Prints Tips: Cropping and the Bleed EdgeHello, everybody! I'm renonevada. For those that don't know, one of my jobs here at deviantART HQ is as quality control for prints. I look at every print before it is purchased for the first time to make sure that it will print properly. Some of the things I look out for are copyright infringement, cropping, pixelation, and to make sure it doesn't violate other policies, such as being too pornographic.
I plan on making a series of journals explaining how to make sure your prints will be approved when they get to me. I know that I'm excited to see the notification letting me know a print has been sold and I want to do what I can to make sure you all see it, as well.
For this journal, I want to speak about Cropping and the Bleed Edge.
This is hands down the number 1 reason why I am forced to reject a print, which in turn will cancel a sale. Because of this, I have tried to make this journal as detailed as possible.
The Bleed Edge is the v
Is Your Email Address Correct?Hi everybody,
I just wanted to post a quick journal bout an important aspect of both buying and selling here on deviantART, your email address. Please make sure that it is correct to ensure you get all of your emails.
To do this, hover your pointer over your username at the top of the screen, then click Settings in the menu that drops down.
Once there, click on General and then on the "Change email" link, if necessary.
THIS is the direct link.
If you are a seller, you will receive your Rejected and Approved prints emails there with information on why a rejection may have occurred.
If you are a buyer, You will get promotional emails and other such awesomeness, as well. You will also receive all of your transactional emails there, from the "We have received your order" one all the way to the "Your Super Awesome Prints of Great Taste and Skill have shipped out!"
If you have not received an e
Points: A Brief Word on Scams and Other NonsenseAlbino.
A second word about scams?
Now, after those brief words, I wanted to say that if you ever see anything like "You give me 10 points and I'll give you 100" IT WILL 100% OF THE TIME BE A SCAM!
If there is some random deviant that you don't know wanting you to give them points for a magical "X" number afterwards, they are LYING and you will never see those points again.
You would think this would be common sense, but it unfortunately is not. At all.
Remember that 10 points is 8 cents. A homeless guy would curse you out if you tried giving him 8 cents. Also, remember that all points transfers are AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU chose to give those points out. YOU gambled, hoping to get 100 or whatever number the guy promised, and lost. Scammers like that prey on gullible schmucks, so don't be a gullible schmuck.
I wish common sense things like this became a meme and traveled through people's comments instead of "FB
Tips and Tricks: Adjust Image ToolIt's renonevada again with another printscommunity How To feature.
In my previous article, Prints 101: Editing your Prints, I broke down the basics of editing your print and gave you a n introduction to the Adjust Image tool. With this one, I am going to go into more depth, as there are some things you can do that are not immediately noticeable. I promise to do as little rehashing as possible, so if you have not checked out that previous article and are not comfortable with our prints tools yet, I would suggest checking it out.
Here is the Adjust Image tool, which is found by clicking the Adjust Image button on the Edit Print page.
Funky Little White Boxes
The first thing I want you to notice are the small white squares around the image. You can click and drag the squares to crop your image, if it is necessary.
New Submit: Setting up Prints TipWith the New Submit Page comes a small change in how prints are uploaded to the site. Below is a screenshot of the new submit page. On the right, you'll see 3 options. I have checked Submit Prints. Below that, a new check box appears, labeled Use recommended defaults.
If that box is checked, you will skip the prints submission page and the sizes closest to the image you have submitted will be selected. If you leave the box unchecked, you will be brought to the prints submission page where you can customize your products to your hearts content.
Keeping the box unchecked is most definitely the best option to choose, in my opinion. I like to have control over every piece to make sure it will look good when someone buys it.
On the flip-side, if you're a photographer and your source file hasn't been cropped at all, there is an excellent chance the 1.5:1 image ratio will work by default. Our system will see that
Approvals and Tickets and Fraud, OH MY!Hello again, everybody!
For this article, I thought I would go into some detail as to what I do here at deviantART. You've seen my recent articles so you know I'm getting more involved in the printscommunity group, but otherwise I may as well be an anonymous $admin. I'm going to explain the different parts of my job, focusing mainly on my prints duties specifically since that's why you're all here, right?
Did you have a print that was rejected within the past year and a half? There's a pretty good chance that it was me who did it.
So... Awkward. Sorry 'bout that!
That is one of the main reasons why I have been doing these articles. The more information I can get out there about creating a quality print product, the less I will (hopefully) need to reject and the more we all can sell!
When Prints are Approved
I wish we had the staff so that every print could be viewed and approved the second it was submitted to devi
Recommend A Friend Project: Startup InformationHey all. Welcome to the Recommend A Friend Project. This journal's purpose will be to describe this little project, and to tell you information about signing up. Please be sure to read all the following information carefully in order for things to run smoothly. If you'd like to spread word about this project or even just favorite this journal so it reaches a larger audience, it would be most appreciated!
Basically, I noticed a part of my profile seemed a little blank, so I decided to create a custom box on my page dedicated to featuring deviants of all talents weekly . The box will feature a recommended friend, and the deviant that recommended them. It will also include a tidbit about the recommended friend, including why you should check them out Each duo will be up for a week, and at the end of the month, I will collect all of the features and create one big journal feature, with everyone that participated that month.
