So after looking at =urban-barbarian's art and drooling over it, I decided to give the inking style a shot. I did a quick sketch of Humphrey Bogart and I'm just now wondering why nobody is is named Humphrey nowadays. I apologize for the derpy eyes, it was a quick sketch so they might not be totally level. >_>
This isn't a style match to his, but the free loose inks did inspire me to try something a lot less Scott Williams. I decided on Bogey because I eventually want to try drawing out one of the Philip Marlowe stories. Comic Noir lends itself to a more loose style, don't you think?
A #2 W&N series 7 brush is used. If you wish to try inking with a brush, you really should spend the few extra bucks and get one of those. Probably a #1 as well, once you start improving.
I used Winsor Newton brushes for years and years but just discovered the Raphael 8408, #3 and haven't used anything else since. I find it's just a little better for almost everything. I can't guarantee everyone will feel the same way but I was surprised at how much I preferred this brush immediately.
I do remember having a Raphael brush years and years ago and I did like it.
